Trust: The New Frontier
In these times of intense change, the ability to trust and to live in present time is the new frontier. No amount of technical skill or know-how exempts us from this collective growing edge.
All we need do is read the news or talk to our friends to know that nearly everyone is navigating upheaval, change and radical uncertainty. Uncertainty, by its very nature, causes the future to feel unknown. Even the ‘future’ of tomorrow and next week seems elusive. We plan, strategize, and take action because we must, but none of this assures our desired outcome. In a very real sense, our feelings of security can no longer be derived from the circumstances in which we find ourselves because, “stick around”, circumstances change rapidly.
Indeed the newest frontier, for all of us, is an internal one. Trust is essential for every person who is willing to actively leap into the unknown, be that by choice or by circumstance. Trust in oneself, and in a Power beyond oneself, creates greater capacity for personal risk and a more empowered relationship with uncertainty and possibility. In trust, uncertainty and possibility are one and the same.
Trust is a feeling in the body. It’s both grounded and expansive. Trust illuminates the body. It dissolves the edges of the knot of fear, and in so doing creates ripples of expansion, of leaning into ‘God’. It’s a paradox that going inward to find trust leads to expansiveness and connection with others. It’s a paradox that moving toward fear as a feeling in the body, and softening its edges with trust, ushers us into greater calm, greater appreciation for simplicity, and greater compassion.
How do you cultivate trust? For me, it’s a hodge-podge of things: Reminding myself it’s ok to ‘not know’. Noticing beauty. Smiling for no particular reason. Talking to my ‘guides.’ Remembering that we’re all in this boat of uncertainty – that it’s not personal. And knowing that my only true responsibility is creating inner stability, a sense of joyful calm, and an expectancy on behalf of humanity, that we are, in every moment and inevitably, on a path of harmony, evolution, and balance.

back to top Featured Partner: Your Local Farmer's Market
It’s Spring, and that means Saturday mornings at the Farmer’s Market! We love the atmosphere, friendly people, the live music, and yes, the baked goods. But hey, when you eat a raspberry thumbprint cookie in the open air with neighbors and friends, it’s good for you! We always leave with bags of fresh vegetables and a full heart; and often some flowers for the table, fragrant herbs, maybe a jar of Lusty Monk hot mustard, and some goat cheese.
We believe in supporting sustainable agriculture, community farmers, and the local farm-to-table movement. We also find that venturing out early on a Saturday morning and brushing elbows with our community gives us an unmistakeable sense of place.
Here’s a great website to find a farmers market, csa, or tailgate market in your community: http://www.localharvest.org/ Go and enjoy yourself! You’ll feel healthy, connected, and nurtured.
