Yesterday, I forgot to sign up for my spin class in the window that would have assured me a seat, and sure enough I ended up 4th on the wait list. Fourth. On the wait list. That was not good. The evening class was prohibitive because of my writing class, so the noon class was my only option. I decided to chance it.
During the 10 minute drive to the “Y”, I figured I better start manifesting, or I’d end up on one of those boring stationary things with no music, and no accompaniment by my spinning buddies. You just can’t get the same workout, even on one of those simulated hill profiles with the high tech screen showing a winter scene with Billy goats and all. I’ve tried it.
So, back in my car I started visualizing myself in the class, in the 3 position, (that’s standing in a crouch position with your backside very near the seat – “on a hill”) and really powering through the song. Now mind you, I wasn’t feeling particularly expanded or enlightened, but just enough to feel like I was there and feeling vital. I did this for maybe 2 minutes, because I am easily distractible.
I had to do the obligatory wait outside the door until the 5 minute latitude passed for the no-shows, but I did get in the class. And you have to get that, at noon on Wednesday during a snowy February in a town of avid cyclists, this is a big deal.
I have to back up and say that there are some much bigger things that I’ve been intending to manifest of late. ‘Big things. ‘Career enhancing, fulfillment of destiny sort of things. And it did occur to me in my car that I was engaged in a mini experiment with manifestation, which if successful, could be observed and harvested for future use.
So this morning I reflected: What was it about yesterday’s manifestation that could be applied to this more long-term process? ‘Some nugget. And then I saw it plainly. I had 10 minutes to manifest my seat. If I were successful, I’d be riding in about 15. It was literally about as near to me in time as any “future” event could be.
When we coach people, we often tell them that they have to bring their intention energetically into present time. “Don’t send your energy out to the event or thing you want to manifest. Bring that manifestation to you in present time. If you send your thoughts about the event, and especially your energy, out into a distant future, that is where your manifestation will live – in the future. ‘Always out ahead of you.”
Instead, feel the event happening now. Imagine that it is in fact the very next thing happening in your life. This is a small, internal shift, but it brings your new reality right into the present moment, as a living, breathing manifestation inside you.
It is important to experiment with this. First feel your intended manifestation as a future event, and notice how your energy expands and reaches out beyond you to get it. Next, bring that manifestation to you, as a reality in your body, as something already true in present time. Feel the difference, and practice the latter. And if you experience a miracle, by all means, share with us!

The award luncheon was generous and lively, and was attended by over 350 local business owners. It was thrilling to be a recipient of an award for truly making a difference, a significant impact on others’ lives, more than simply dollars earned or volume of business. We have been “out on a limb” for the past 10 years, knowing deeply that we were creating for a future that wasn’t quite here yet. Pioneering our work has taken every skill we teach – risking, having faith, taking care of ourselves, and making conscious, integrous choices. It’s been worth it, and the symbolism of this award says to me that we have reached a mountaintop . . . and are connecting with other mountaintops. The future has arrived with the sun shining fully on our souls. I am both excited and reverent, and I know the real work is just beginning.
